Google Cast-enabled apps: How to cast video to your TV (2025)

​Casting to your TV is a way to enjoy your favourite apps optimised for the big screen. You can use your mobile device or tablet as a remote and control everything from playback to volume via the Google Home app.

Please note that casting might also be enabled from your laptop on the websites of Google Cast-enabled apps. To learn more, visit Cast-enabled site vs casting a tab. In order to cast from Chrome, please make sure that you have the cast button installed on your Chrome Browser.

Before you cast

  1. Connect your mobile device, tablet or computer to a Wi-Fi network.

  2. The mobile device, tablet or computer that you're using to cast must be on the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromecast, Google TV Streamer (4K) or TV with Google Cast.

  3. You must have the latest version of the Google Cast-enabled app. Visit the Google Play Store Google Cast-enabled apps: How to cast video to your TV (1)or Apple App Store to double-check your app version or to check for updates.

  4. Local Network must be enabled for mobile devices with iOS 14 or later and computers with MacOS 15 or later to discover Cast-enabled devices. Learn more about Local Network for casting.

Cast from Google Cast-enabled apps to your TV

  1. Make sure the mobile device, tablet or computer you're using to cast is on the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromecast, Google TV Streamer (4K) or TV with Google Cast.

  2. Open a Google Cast-enabled app.

  3. Tap the cast button Google Cast-enabled apps: How to cast video to your TV (2).

  4. Tap the device to which you'd like to cast.

  5. Once you're connected, the cast button will turn solid, which lets you know that you're connected.

  6. You can now cast videos, films and TV shows directly to your TV.

Cast from Google Cast-enabled apps from iOS 13 devices

  1. Make sure the mobile device, tablet or computer you're using to cast is on the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromecast, Google TV Streamer (4K) or TV with Google Cast.

  2. Open a Google Cast-enabled app.

  3. If it requires location permissions, tap Yes.

    1. Some Cast-enabled apps may request location permissions and may not be able to cast if location permissions are not granted.

  4. In the Google Cast-enabled app, tap the Cast button Google Cast-enabled apps: How to cast video to your TV (5).

    1. The cast button isn't located in the same place on all Google Cast-enabled apps.

  5. Tap the device to which you'd like to cast.

  6. If you're unable to cast, you may need to wait for the Google Cast-enabled app to release a new version to support cast on iOS 13 devices.

If your home has two or more isolated networks available, your Android device may automatically switch between networks depending on signal strength. This could affect whether or not you see the cast buttonin your applications.

To avoid automatic switching, Android users can go to the device's Wi-Fi settings and forget 'Network B' to ensure that the Android device is connected to the same 'Network A' as the Chromecast or TV with Chromecast Built-In.
