WWE Monday Night Raw comes waltzing back into our lives tonight (Aug. 5, 2024) from the CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore, Maryland, featuring all the fallout from the SummerSlam premium live event that went down this past Saturday night in Cleveland.
Advertised for tonight: New World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER is on the card and scheduled to appear after he defeated Damian Priest to take the gold. Elsewhere, CM Punk and Drew McIntyre are both scheduled, so we’ll get some follow up on that feud. The Wyatt Sicks vs. the new Alpha Academy is set for the main event, the first hour will be commercial free, Awesome Truth vs. A-Town Down Under, and a whole lot more!

WWE RAW RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR AUG. 5
I’m digging deep inside my soul to bring myself out of this goddamned hole. I rid the demons from my heart and found the truth was with me from the start. Holy angel lift me from this burning hell, resurrection make me whole. Son of Judas bring the saints to my revenge, resurrection bring me home so I can liveblog this here pro wrestling show for you, folks.
The show opens with a recap of SummerSlam.
We see Dominik Mysterio walking Liv Morgan into the arena backstage, as well as Damian Priest walking alone (but not inside a pit of danger.)
Bron Breakker and Drew McIntyre conclude our montage.
Ludwig Kaiser is in the ring to give GUNTHER a big introduction for his first entrance as your WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
He gets on the mic and introduces himself with all his epithets and accolades and tells us to just watch and see what he does as World Heavyweight Champion, because in this ring he is above everyone here. He’s ready and prepared for everyone and everything, and nothing can catch him off-guard. He is greatness personified.
Enter Randy Orton.
GUNTHER admits that he was in fact caught off-guard, and Randy says he wanted to come out here and congratulate him but that’s not really his style. But that being said, that title looks mighty fine hanging over his German shoulders, and he’s a good-looking champion. But Orton can’t help but think about how he’s the only reason GUNTHER has that title in the first place.
He got his title shot by beating Orton at King of the Ring, but did he really beat him? The people know it, Randy knows it, even Triple H knows it. His shoulders weren’t down but the referee’s decision is final and he knows he has to respect that. But Triple H knows there has to be a GUNTHER/Orton II and he told the world as much, and that’s why he’s here tonight, to call that in.
He’s the only guy in the back that can match GUNTHER in the ring, counter for counter, technician for technician, smooth versus smoother, a modern-day Flair vs. Steamboat. Orton knows he can fill one of those roles, but can the Ring General? He considers himself a living legend and that’s perfect because brother, Randy’s made a career out of killing legends and he’s going to do it again in Berlin.
GUNTHER tells him if the voices are telling him he can win, the voices are wrong, and he accepts the challenge. They get close and GUNTHER tells him that nothing, absolutely nothing catches him out of nowhere, and Randy says that’s good to know, but it doesn’t have to be out of nowhere, and he wants him to see it coming.
Commentary hypes up the first hour being commercial free (long low groan of anguish from yours truly) and talks up tonight’s show.
Sheamus is interviewed in Gorilla.
He had his sights set on putting Pete Dunne in his place but now Ludwig Kaiser is back and blaming him. All these kids want to make a name on him, he says bring ‘em on, and tonight he’s going to test Ludwig’s fragile little ribs.
Ludwig Kaiser vs. Sheamus
Sheamus in control early but Kaiser cuts him off with a kick to the knee and puts boots to him! Body blows, Ludwig bails to the floor and asks for a medic, referee Eddie Orengo holds Sheamus back and of course the German gets a cheap shot in! Dropkick around the ring, Orengo counting, Celtic Warrior beats the count!
Kaiser choking him in the corner, clawing at his face, overhead elbow connects as he works Sheamus over! Sheamus rises ramrod straight and hammers him with headbutts and right hands! Trading punches with wicked abandon, whip reversed, Sheamus runs through a lariat, axhandles, corner lariat, Irish Curse backbreaker!
White Noise connects for two! Beats of the Bodhran countered with a jawbreaker, discus lariat... SO CLOSE! Trading wild punches from their knees and to their feet, Sheamus with a lariat, passing Kaiser to the apron, and now the Beats of the Bodhran connect! Diving lariat to the floor, Pete Dunne runs in with the shillelagh but the Celtic Warrior sidesteps and takes him out with the pump knee!
Back inside, Ludwig nails him with an enzuigiri... NOPE! Pump knee sets it up...
Sheamus wins by pinfall with the Brogue Kick.
We get another Wyatt VHS, this one built around memorializing the debut of the original Wyatt Family eleven years ago.
We see Chad Gable and the Creed Brothers making their way into the building tonight.
A video package covering Roman Reigns’ return on Saturday follows.
Damian Priest makes his entrance and calls Finn Balor out for turning on him.
He says he hears and he sees what he means to people and he realized his family got a whole lot bigger and he introduces Finn his new family, this whole crowd. He’s not upset about the title, he’s pissed off that Balor took the title from all of us, and made him feel that he’s disappointed his family and he can’t let that stand.
He tells Finn to listen closely, because when he’s suffering, he needs to know that Priest is the one responsible for his pain, and he calls him down to take his beating.
Finn Balor, of course, appears in mood lighting on the tron instead.
He tells Damian brought this on himself and he betrayed the Judgment Day. They were supposed to have each other’s backs with no leaders, but he changed that. He brings up how he almost won the title a year ago and Priest told him to man up, and he waited and waited and waited and manned up in order to screw Damian and his “family.”
He’s just a loser from the streets and Balor isn’t going to fight him, but JD McDonagh will, because he’s earned it and he deserves it. Finn’s gonna wait until Priest feels safe and comfortable and has almost forgotten him, and when his back is turned he’ll stab him in the back again and again and again.
JD and Carlito and Dominik Mysterio and Liv Morgan all move into frame and embrace, being a new Judgment Day free of Damian or Rhea Ripley.
Pat McAfee does a telestrator breakdown of water spitting with Triple H at the SummerSlam kickoff show.
Bronson Reed rolls up to Adam Pearce and tells him if he’s going to get to the top, he’s clearly going to have to follow his own path.
Lyra Valkyria vs. Shayna Baszler
Baszler going right after her arm, stomping the bicep, elevated wristlock, arm wringer, Valkyria ducks a lariat and lands a crossbody! Lariats with the good arm, rolling solebutt, kick combination, enzuigiri caught and Shayna grabs an ankle lock! Boot up in the corner, Baszler picks the leg but Lyra turns her around into a Doctor Bomb... NOPE!
Valkyria dropkicks Sonya Deville through the ropes, Baszler grabs the Kirifuda Clutch, countered into a fireman’s carry, reversed, sling her aside, step-up enzuigiri, fireman’s carry, Nightwing but here comes Sonya and Zoey Stark...
Lyra Valkyria wins by disqualification.
Post-match, Damage CTRL run down to confront Deville and company! A brawl breaks out, Damage CTRL run them off!
We get a Final Testament promo about how the Doomsday Clock will strike tonight and they’ll put an end to the New Day.
CM Punk is shown walking backstage and we finally, mercifully go to break.
Back from commercial, Ivy Nile is chatting with the Creed Brothers when Maxxine Dupri rolls up to ask what she’s doing hanging out with them while they’ve been attacking Otis and Tozawa.
Ivy tries to explain and Chad Gable rolls up and tells her to pay no mind to Dupri and she and her clowns can even keep the Alpha Academy name.
CM Punk makes his entrance and gets on the mic.
He says he’ll get to why he’s smiling but first he wants to shoutout a teammate of his who just won a UFC Championship. Why is he so happy when he lost? He said he was going to do things he didn’t do. He hasn’t been to Baltimore in over ten years and it feeds the ego when ten thousand people scream his name at him.
Every time he gets knocked down he gets back up and some people hate him for not staying down. SummerSlam wasn’t a guarantee, he was hurt right after his monumental return and he was told nine months but he’s proud of himself for one of the first times in his life because they said nine months and he did it in five.
Drew McIntyre is a big bad man, a tough son of a bitch, he hurt him, that happens, but he gloated about it and prayed about it, told lies about him to feel better about himself, but he’s happy because he’s back. SummerSlam was the start of his road to WrestleMania and he’s going to make his way all the way to the top.
Where would CM Punk be if he stayed down the last time he lost a title? His summer of hate didn’t start the way he predicted, but it’s still summer and he says this packed house of beautiful people deserves less Punk talking and more Punk fighting. Round two, he wants Drew McIntyre tonight!
Enter Seth Rollins, much to CM’s consternation, wearing a fringe jacket like a dimestore Hangman Page, or perhaps doing some Tony Iommi cosplay.
He opens his jacket and reveals a bare chest underneath, leaving the jacket on the ramp, and raises the microphone to his lips.
He says Punk is in a good mood, and so is he, because after ten long years it’s finally time for him to put CM in the dirt! Punk laughs him off and says he’s not the one who dressed like a cowboy today but he’ll be his huckleberry.
Drew McIntyre appears in the crowd asking what is with all the negativity? Tonight is a night of celebration! He beat CM Punk and Seth counted the 1-2-3! He thinks he’s earned Punk’s undivided attention and he’s gonna say nice things. He shocked Drew by bringing the fight and proved that he’s still got it.
But he’s no longer the best in the world, that’s McIntyre. He asks if they’re gonna keep staring into each other’s eyes or if they’re going to look at him, and he reminds CM Punk he still has the bracelet, and Punk snaps and races into the crowd!
Seth turns around and gets blindsided by “Big” Bronson Reed! Fending off mounted punches, superkicks, Reed catches him with the Death Valley Driver and follows it up with a pair of crushing sentons! Dragging Rollins into position... 747 SPLASH! A SECOND ONE!
Road agents and referees check on Seth and pull Bronson away but the big man marches back to the ring, back up top... A THIRD 747 SPLASH! A FOURTH! A FIFTH! A SIXTH! Seth coughs up blood in the middle of the ring. Reed wants another one but finally the accumulated staff manage to stop him and send us to break.
Back from commercial, we get a recap of what we just saw, because Raw is three hours long. (Three hours long.)
Adam Pearce is interviewed and says it’s too early for an update but obviously it doesn’t look good for Seth Rollins.
CM Punk storms up and Pearce tells him he personally escorted Drew McIntyre out of the building and gives him a pat on the shoulder.
Authors of Pain (Akam & Rezar) vs. New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods)
Kingston and Akam to start, Kofi using his speed, shot off, superkick to Rezar but the legal man clobbers him with a spinebuster! Tag to Rezar and we go to break!
Back from commercial, Kingston finally gets the tag and Woods comes in hot! Kicks staggering Rezar, clear Akam off the apron, but Xavier gets stampeded into the corner by the Albanian Psycho! Headbutts from the turnbuckles, missile dropkick connects and takes the Author off his feet!
Akam runs in, low-bridge sends him into Coffin Drop range from Kofi! Scarlett Bordeaux runs interference and Karrion Kross gets a cheap shot on Woods! Rezar draws Xavier up, but here comes Odyssey Jones in a New Day shirt! Small package...
New Day win by pinfall with a small package from Xavier Woods on Rezar.
Authors of Pain beat Woods down until Odyssey makes the save and cleans the big men out with a double side slam! Kross with an elbow but Jones sends him packing with a Black Hole Slam!
JD McDonagh cuts a promo running Damian Priest and his gormless face down for not seeing the train coming down the track and being blinded by his own arrogance.
A-Town Down Under make their entrance to send us to break.
Back from commercial, we get some hype for Survivor Series in Vancouver.
Backstage, New Day are hanging out with Odyssey Jones, who says Kofi Kingston told him they needed help against Final Testament.
Alpha Academy roll up to join the celebration and Akira Tozawa does his dance.
A-Town Down Under (Austin Theory & Grayson Waller) vs. Awesome Truth (R-Truth & the Miz)
Truth and Theory to start, Ron holding court, tag to Miz, double whip, double dropkicks, sending Waller packing with clotheslines and Austin as well as we go to break!
Back from commercial, Truth gets a boot up on Theory, drop toehold catches him, he rolls away from an elbow drop from Waller! Roll under, tag to Miz! The A-Lister in hot with lariats, chest kicks, double dropkick, wrecking ball dropkick and then a plancha! Back inside, Skull-Crushing Finale blocked, Awesome Clothesline connects, up top, Truth tags in, diving crossbody, fireman’s carry wallops Miz by accident!
Attitude Adjustment on Waller but Theory is legal...

Post-match, Miz is gently annoyed but consoles Truth on the loss.
Damian Priest cuts a promo about his betrayal at the hands of Finn Balor and warns JD McDonagh what that means for the kind of guy Balor is.
Back from commercial, Bron Breakker is interviewed backstage.
He asks why everyone around here loves talking about how long they’ve held titles. It’s been less than three years since he debuted on NXT and now he’s Intercontinental Champion and the rest of the locker room is his prey. He wasn’t born for this championship, this championship was born to sit on his shoulder.
He shows off his sideplates and says there isn’t a man on this planet who can take his name off of his title.
Damian Priest vs. JD McDonagh
McDonagh keeping his distance, throwing chops, front kick, off the ropes, duck a lariat, but Priest blasts him with a big boot and throws him into the corner for right hands! JD turns things around, beating him in the corner, hesitation dropkick connects! Damian fires up, kicks McDonagh out to the floor where Carlito helps him up but Priest goes after him!
Carlito rolls in and out of the ring, Damian picks JD up and threatens to slam him into Carlito but McDonagh slips out and Priest goes into the post! Suicide dive follows, and we go to break!
Back from commercial, Damian boxes his ears, South of Heaven but he lands on his feet! Headbutt, JD up top, diving moonsault... SO CLOSE! Priest lighting him up with kicks, rolling elbow, straight elbow, charging back elbow, Broken Arrow! Off the ropes, big lariat, roundhouse kick to Carlito, the straps are down!
But Finn Balor hits the ring...

Post-match, Priest gets him up for Razor’s Edge but Liv Morgan makes the save and helps Dominik Mysterio beat Damian down! RHEA RIPLEY MAKES THE SAVE! Back and forth and the babyface duo stand tall!
We get a recap of Cody Rhodes retaining the title and the return of Roman Reigns.
Damage CTRL are walking backstage when they get attacked by Sonya Deville and her crew! They stomp Dakota Kai’s ankle into oblivion and warn her to stay out of their business!

Deville gets on the mic and mocks Dakota Kai for “feeling under the weather” after their attack, but IYO SKY steps up to fight her!

Back from commercial, Sonya with a nearfall after a beatdown on the floor, hanging IYO in the ropes for chest kicks! Deville’s shoulder put into the post, SKY shaky to her feet, right hand, catch a kick, dragon screw connects! Shoulder block, Shotei, dropkick to the thigh! Shoulder block in the corner, IYO up top, missile dropkick, cover for two!
Rising knee from Deville, running knee, cover, only two! Victory roll into a stomp, SKY trying to put it together, corner knees! Kairi Sane takes Zoey Stark out with a backfist, IYO clears Shayna, up top with Kairi, Orihara moonsault on one side and the diving elbow on the other!

Backstage, Ilja Dragunov chats with Sami Zayn.
Zayn thanks him for the talk and says he’s gonna make a fine champion some day.
Jey Uso rolls up to give him a pep talk, Sami says this one feels different but Uso won’t take no for an answer and says he’s gonna get his rematch and get the title back, YEET. Zayn says he already talked to Adam Pearce and got the match set for next week, then Jey says they’re gonna go after the Judgment Day and get the tag titles again.
Commentary updates us on Seth Rollins, saying he’s got a CAT scan and some other tests lined up.

Chad Gable is walking backstage and cuts a promo about how he’s got a new family and with the Creeds by his side he’ll send the Wyatts back to the swamp, and they are American Made.
They make their entrance and we go to break.
American Made (Brutus Creed, Chad Gable, & Julius Creed) vs. Wyatt 6 (Dexter Lumis, Erick Rowan, & Joe Gacy)
All-out brawling before the bell, the Wyatts clear the ring and stand tall! American Made go to leave up the aisle but Uncle Howdy sits and laughs and the other way!
Back inside, Lumis and Gable to start, Chad bails and tags Julius in! Dexter with a big shoulder block, hoisting Creed up for a spinebuster, off the ropes, axhandles, big leg drop, tag to Gacy! Whip reversed, hanging upside down in the turnbuckles, Stinger Splash, overhook suplex, tag back to Lumis! Back suplex neckbreaker combination, one Creed saves another and Gable is tagged back in.
Creeds clear the apron, Erick gets involved, match breaks down with all six men brawling! Rowan slams one Creed into another and Joe hits a senton on both of them! Picking Lumis up... ERICK POWERBOMBS HIM OVER THE ROPES AND INTO AMERICAN MADE TO SEND US TO BREAK!

Tag to Rowan, the big man cutting them down! Back elbow, corner lariat, send Brutus to the floor, huge back body drop for Chad!
Baseball slide sends Gable to the floor, facebuster into the barricade! YEAHYEAHYEAHYEAH on the apron, slingshot senton atomico! Spinning Northern Lights Bomb... THE CREEDS BREAK IT UP! Rising knee from Julius, Gacy is back inside and absorbing punishment and being taken to the floor! DEXTER LUMIS DIVING LEG DROP OFF THE TOP AND TO THE FLOOR!
Gable German suplexes Erick... NOT ENOUGH! Creeds put into the announce desk, Gable turns around to see an angry Rowan with the claw... CLAW SLAM! Gacy tags in, tag to Lumis, Joe powerbombs him into Chad! Down in the corner, Dexter off the top, assisted splash...
